I realize that this is my final hour. I have known for quite some time but have never had the heart to tell you. I love you; remember that and I wish you the best in life. But there is something that you must know; this was only my final hour in the mortal world, I am still alive.... I am a book jumper.... I found this out in 1082 A.D....I want you to find me. I want to spend the rest of my life with you....
All Alexandria wanted to do was to become a librarian, gather more books for her collection and to marry the handsome, most wonderful man that she was dating. Then he was suddenly killed in an accident and left her a message that would forever change her life along with a ring.
Excerpt: Book Jumper I love you were the last words that he said to me before he died. I didn’t think too much about it at the time that it was snowing and the roads were slick, that he might crash, what I was thinking about was the book that lay on the table next to me, the books that he had bought me for my birthday; the original Beauty and the Beast, Pride and Prejudice, a version of Robin Hood, and The Princess Bride; all mine. I heard a small voice in the back of my head yelling at me to take more notice to him instead of the beautiful bound books, but I didn’t. I wanted the books, and realized what a grave mistake I had made when it was too late.
The officer came to the door around midnight on the twenty-first of the month. White crystalline snow blanketed the earth; a wonderland of imagination. I was reading in my favorite maroon armchair next to the fireplace. The warmth caressed my bare legs. He had left around ten and though I begged him to stay the night he had left, saying that he had to get to his house because he needed to feed the animals. When he left I started to read, to take my mind off of him driving in the snow.
The doorbell rang. I looked up hoping that it was him that he decided to turn around, but then noticed the clock, 12:00 a.m. Dread filled me like a jug and I padded to the front door. The officer greeted me with a grim, lipped look, and I collapsed right in the hall.
“Miss Alexandria, I’m sorry. His car slid off the road and instantly killed him … I wish that there was something that I could do.” He knelt down beside me, reaching out as though to touch me, but then his hand fell; the only comfort had dropped away from me. “We found this in his hand,” he said quietly.
I looked up at him. The tears and crying had turned my face red, blurring my vision, but not enough to not see the bloodstained note in his hand. It was rolled into a cylinder shape inside a ring, his ring. I took it from him. My fingers itched as I slid his ring off of the paper and unraveled it.
