The First Death chronicles among other things, Anita's first meeting with Jean-Claude, and it does it in a graphic novel format. It takes place almost a year before the events currently being chronicled in Guilty Pleasures and gives a background to some of the events that are referenced there. You will get to see Anita at a crime scene, the first time Anita and Jean-Claude meet, Anita's first time inside Guilty Pleasures, her first serial killer case, and a very early encounter with Edward. Anita and Edward hunt a killer vampire, and race to find him before more innocent blood is spilled. We see how deep into the vampire psyche is Anita willing to delve in order to get her killer and what she may have to sacrifice in order to stop this murderer from striking again. For a more detailed synopsis, see here.

Important Revelations
- It is the fall and the weather has turned cool.
- Anita has only known Zerbrowski for a few weeks and she already knows that he cannot stop himself from making smart remarks.
- Dead Dave had been killed in the line of duty as a police officer – before vampires had gotten rights. And in those days, being a vampire made him legally dead.
- Technically a vampire could have been killed on site before Addison vs, Clarke, the court case that gave a new definition of what death was and wasn’t.
- Anita drank Orange juice at the Dave’s bar.
- Dave calls Guilty Pleasures a freak-fest: a place where humans come to look at the freaks – vampires and lycanthropes.
- Jean-Claude says that he doesn’t dance anymore on stage, but he does occasionally give private dances.
- One-on-one deep hypnosis is permanent unless the vampire dies.
