Character Description

Avery is described as being "of medium height", with short brown hair, and brown eyes. His height is later described as being six feet, but seeming shorter. Anita describes him as having "a face that was handsome in a soft, unfinished way, as if he'd been barely legal when they killed him." He is neat, tidy, and organised, both with his person and his home.

Initially a member of the Church of Eternal Life, Avery later 'jumped ship' to join Jean-Claude's kiss. However, in the Harlequin, Avery was at the Church when the Harlequin arrived there, perhaps indicating that his ties with Malcolm were not completely severed.

• Avery is a neat and tidy person, and his apartment indicates that he is financially well-off;
• He was a suspect in the 'stripper murders' in Incubus Dreams, but was innocent.
• Anita was able to 'call him' using power borrowed from Malcolm. She could 'taste' his innocence, and obtained Malcolm's permission to use the marks with Jean-Claude to 'roll' Avery, to 'see' what had happened in his apartment.
• A vampire named 'Nellie' had attempted to recruit Avery to join with her kiss, who under Vittorio's leadership, had murdered the strippers. Upset by what had occurred, Avery had gone to the Church to seek Malcolm's help.
