The story begins with Anita coming home from work to find Jason and Nathaniel sitting at the kitchen table talking. After greeting Nathaniel, Anita notices that Jason looks upset and she asks why. Jason says that he and Perdy, his mermaid girlfriend introduced in Danse Macabr, have broken up because Perdy believed that Jason was sleeping with Jean-Claude, Asher, and Anita. Jason explains to Anita that he had asked Jean-Claude to be taken off of Anita’s rotation of men for the ardeur a while before the book starts in hopes that this would make Perdy believe that he only slept with her. Jason quickly begins to fill in much of Perdy’s back story, stating that she is possessive and jealous, and was kicked out of Cape Cod, her original home, because she wanted to be more than a blood donor to a master vampire there. Jason tells Anita that Perdy wanted to get married to him even though she would out-live him. After Jason tells them about Perdy, he also states that his mother has called him to tell him that his father has cancer and is dying. While Anita and Nathaniel comfort him, Jason tells them that he wants to have sex with Anita. He says that Perdy is not there to stop him and it would make him feel better if they had sex. But he doesn’t want to do it in a bed, because Perdy always made him have sex with her in a bed missionary style, made him feel dirty when he said that he wanted to have sex anywhere else or in any other position. So they have sex with Nathaniel holding Anita from behind and Jason before her. They start in the living room and when Jason finishes, Nathaniel caries Anita to the bedroom and proceeds to have sex with Anita while Jason watches. After cleaning up, they retire on the bed to cuddle while Jason continues to spill the beans. He tells Anita and Nathaniel that his father believes that he is gay because most of his friends in school were girls, his best friend was gay, and he wanted to dance more than he wanted to play sports. His mother suggested that he bring a female friend home to see his father so that he could “die happy”. Nathaniel suggests that he take Anita. After much persuading, he convinces the other two that his plan could work. tbc...
