Let me star by saying I love LKH and AB, but this has to be my least favorite book since OB. This book is packed with so many back to back sex sessions that it seems to have no real plot at all. I am not a prude by any means but I know understand why I read so many negative comments about the later AB series. I will continue to read them but i miss the mystery aspect of things. I never though sex could be overdone in a sci-fi book but jeez.... This is hard to get through. Someone please tell me they get better and there is a reason for me to finish ID and continue to Micah.
Do you find this valuable?

I'm on chapter 61 of Incubus Dreams in pb and I'm not sure how to reference it.
It's the "my neighbourhood friendly vampire hunter" line, 1st line of the chapter. It's obviously a reference to Spiderman. Help please.... |

So I'm re-reading through my Anita Books - currently reading ID. And there, midways in the book I read this awesome sex scene between JC and Anita (which I feel there are far too little of ) and then - what? - the plot behind the series??? The discussion comes when JC speaks about how powerful Belle Morte is and how dispensable all things are to her as long as her power base is secure. JC realizes he never wants to turn another human being away from their lives to become a vampire. He wishes to never take away the freedom and will of someone else as his freedom and will was taken by Belle Morte. But he is afraid he will grow power hungry and fall to the same weaknesses Belle has fallen too. At that moment Anita realizes that one of her duties as his servant/friend/partner/lover is as a "fail-safe" - if JC becomes too powerful and begins to make the sacrifices that Belle Morte made Anita will have to kill him. However - this ensures her death, Richard's, Damien's - and Nathaniel's. Anita is angry because she realizes that it will be more difficult to kill him if 1) she is in love with him and 2) it will endanger the lives of the other people she loves. JC has made his move. He has ensured his power base through Anita - and once again Anita will be the one to make the difficult decision if/when the time comes. And I do beliieve that time will come.
It's probably one of the most powerful and beautiful passages LKH has written in her books. |
