My First Blake - All Things Anita

What Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter book did you read first?

Let us know here

AngelaB Nov 9 2007, 8:11 PM EST This was the first book I read.(The Laughing Corpse) I think I read it in a weekend, then ran out and bought the previous books. I think I was hooked because it was easy to pick up the story even though I hadn't yet read the first book. Also, because I just had know more about Jean-Claude!
triscut Nov 9 2007, 10:25 PM EST I actually read Incubus Dreams first, and then went out to find the others to learn how all these characters reached this point.
Muiere Dec 1 2007, 9:54 PM EST This was also my first book (The Laughing Corpse)...I think. :) But I didn't really like JC until Bloody Bones. Bad me!
Ruas Feb 27, 2008 1:21 PM MST I started with Cerulean Sins, and read the rest out of order as I found them. This can give you A) a headache, and B) a need to write fan fiction.
BaleyRaine May 27, 2008 11:45 PM CT I started with "The Laughing Corpse" thinking it was the first in the series. I didn't realize until after "The Lunatic Cafe" that I had missed the first and third books because all of a sudden, there was Richard.
Arieslady00 May 13 2009, 3:42 PM EDT Ireally researched this series before I actually read it. I was looking for a new vampire series to read and Anita Blake came up on various searches. So I started with the first book Guilty Pleasures about a week ago (I've read that a lot of people started with Laughing Corpse by accident :P) and loved it. I went out and bought all the books up to Obsidian butterfly. I've just finished Blue Moon and my love is still going strong for this series.

May 18 2008, 5:16 AM EDTIronic...My first book was Circus of the Damned too. My husband actually owned that one when I met him, I read it in one sitting, and got the other books, I went back and read them in order from first to last (until Blood Noir, which I can't WAIT it's so close!!) I've just fell in love with the series.
JCobsessedMay 22 2008, 4:11 AM EDTMy first blake book was Guilty Pleasures I brought them after wanting a series to read and found a box set on Amazon of the first 4 books, I am currently re reading them all ready for Blood Noir, I love them all and sooo cant wait for Blood Noir as I love Jason
kj4sisMay 22 2008, 11:27 AM EDTMy first book was Danse Macabre, my friend let me borrow it, and i realized that the book was amazing, and i believe i bought Incubus Dreams and Obsidian Butterfly after that, then i decided that i was going to read all of them in order. I am currently rereading all of the books before Blood Noir comes out. I cant wait! :):)
segupenguMay 25 2008, 9:07 PM EDTMY first Blake book was the "club vampire" set. I bought it thinking it would be the same old vampire stuff and was surprised and was hooked. I keep on reading them, i love the style and the people in the anita-verse (GP, LaC, CoD)
AtrimineJun 10 2008, 8:31 PM EDTMy first book was burnt offerings. Half way through the book I stopped reading went to the book store and bought all of the books prior.
LdyloveJun 11 2008, 6:34 PM EDTNow my first Anita Blake book? I'm happy to say that i had started from the very first one. It had captured my soul back in 2002. Heck, i think i was the only student reading an exciting, heart throbing, jump in your throat, as your legs squeeze tight with anticipation of passion and sex kinda book at 17 years old. So I guess, now that i look back... i understand why my English teacher couldnt really get the fact that i was in the top 5 readers in the school and why i got so excited when i wrote or presented a bood report. lol Shame...
WhispersofTwilightJun 26 2008, 7:00 PM EDTWell I started with "The Laughing Corpse" I didn't realize it was the second book until after i finished it. I started reading the books two or three years ago when i was 14, yea i know im 16 =/ But I can't stand the young adult books. I mean really..."Gossip Girl"???? Why would i want to read that? I have been in love with reading since...well since I learned.
RembrandtJun 26 2008, 7:41 PM EDTI read most of Guilty Pleasures in comic form, and then switched over to the novel. I'm working my way through them now and I'm up to Circus of the Damned. She sets up a fascinating world.
Black_LionessJun 28 2008, 8:25 AM EDTMy first book was "Guilty Pleasures". A girl in my Japanese class had them when I joined the University. She lent me the first five books in german (I'm living in Germany) and I read them. We became friends and read the next two books also in german. After that there weren't any other books of LKH in Germany published, so we started reading them in english together up till now.
Cyn4loveJun 28 2008, 11:06 PM EDTMine was actually Guilty Pleasures. Thanks to my sister who had already read and had all the books up to Micah. I devoured them all in less then 3 months.
biterJul 11 2008, 4:14 PM EDTMy first Blake book was The Lunatic Cafe. I loved every page of it! After that I went back to the begining, and read them in order.
yayamariahJul 11 2008, 6:05 PM EDTI read the comics before I even started the series. My first book after I got excited about the comics was Guilty Pleasures. I wasn't going to wait a few months and find out what happens at the end. So I got the book and became addicted!
candlelarkJul 15 2008, 1:57 AM EDTI started with "Guilty Pleasures" right after "The Harlequin" came out. When I browsed Amazon, I kept seeing "The Harlequin" and thought the cover was interesting so I clicked on the page. When I realized it was book 15 in the series, I ordered the first book from the library to see if I liked it. I've been hooked ever since; I'm up to Cerulean Sins now and am sure I'm going to finish the remaining books within the next few months.

Sep 7 2008, 2:24 AM EDT I started with the first book in the series. I've only read the first three but my sister has read every single one of them. She is ecstatic whenever I bring her a new edition from the library where I work.
xarifaSep 16 2008, 11:37 AM EDTI started reading the series with Guilty Pleasures, and I loved it so much that I went on to read the other books. I think I skipped Laughing Corpse and had finished Narcissus in Chains by the time I got back to it. By that time, I wasn't pleased in the quality of the second book. For some reason, I reread the first book very often...it might be the best of the series. (If not for the consistent character development in subsequent installations).
SybbieSep 18 2008, 8:54 AM EDTWell, I too started with GP, but then I went a little book mad (I've been known to do that from time to time) and bought them all online. Hehe, I figured that I liked the first one enough, buying them each individually would cost nearly 3 times as much as just taking a risk and buying the other 12 books (that were out at the time) in one hit. And I'm happy to say it was well worth it, and I read them all in about 3 weeks (alas, its the life of a speed reader to never have enough books).
raj316Nov 2 2008, 1:13 AM EDTI started with Obsidian Butterfly. I was instantly hooked. I went directly to the bookstore the next day and haven't stop reading them. Just finished Blood Noir. Can't wait for Skin Trade.
skeptyclNov 2 2008, 11:52 PM ESTI told a friend of mine that I was looking for something a little different and she handed me Guilty Pleasures and I read it in one night. She has all the books so she was constantly having to give me the next one in line. She actually told me that I was reading them to fast and to slow down. That is when I started buying them myself ;) I am glad I got to start with the first one though. I am currently reading Danse Macabre and it is awesome.
ronniexxxxNov 18 2008, 8:54 PM ESTI went to the store to find books to read this past January because I was having throat surgery and would be home for over 2 weeks. I saw Guilty Pleasures, and just by the title I figured it would be good. Within the two weeks I was home I had read all the way up to The Killing Dance. By The end of February, I was waiting on Blood Noir to come out. When it did, I finished in in less than 4 hours. I now await the next book.
TruirishredheadNov 18 2008, 9:22 PM ESTMy first was Guilty Pleasures.... all read in order - thank God.. I can't imagine those who read a later one then go back to read the earlier ones.. I bet it's a bit confusing!!!
Sara_SangJan 5 2009, 5:38 PM ESTWell my dad got the almost entire series for 20$ in a garage sail when i was 15, but i didnt read them even though they were for me because i picked up Cerulean Sins and read the back first. But it had all except Incubus Dreams, Micah, and The Harlequin. I JUST got those for Christmas so yaaay =3 but i picked up Guilty Pleasures first and got addicted for JC, i kinda have been swapping as a JC, Damian, and Jason fan girl through the entire series ^^;;
Nathaniel-is-mine!Jan 6 2009, 3:38 PM ESTlol, you guys can't kill me. My first Anita was Blood Noir. Im an extream vampire fan. They had Blood Noir on display in the vampire section of the libaray. It looked good. I read it, it was Amazing! Then I went and read the rest of the books in order. But when it came to Micah they wouldn't let me check it out. Something about me being to young to read it... But then I went and just bought it.
MonRossignolApr 1 2009, 12:12 AM EDTHad to start with the first - I don't like to read "out of order". Now I'm having to re-read them a little out of order because the ones I couldn't check out from the library I just broke down and bought the paperback at the bookstore. So some I own but some I don't. But I went ahead and ordered all the books I don't have and will get back to re-reading them in order.
ellie*weretigerApr 1 2009, 4:44 AM EDTmy first blake was incubus dreams... wow. what an introduction. hahahahaha. been reading the series ever since.
Emma[[Morte]]Apr 3 2009, 3:03 PM EDTMy first Blake was 'Guilty Pleasures', after reading the Twilight series i was looking for something vampireie and came across 'Guilty Pleasures' at the Library, though after reading it i didn't bother getting 'The Laughing Corpes'. It wasn't until re-read 'Guilty Pleasures', that i could fully appriciate the book, then i got all the books i could get my hands on (in corect order of course) and devoured every last one, then after finishing 'Danse Macabre' i cried like a baby until 'Blood Noir' came out. Now i'm having to repeat the process,(Sob). Been a scarily huge fan ever since. Lol.
NathanielsTopApr 3 2009, 3:34 PM EDTI can so relate to the scarily huge fan part. I just recently picked up the series starting with Guilty Pleasures and I have read all of them up to Danse Macabre (I'm reading it now) and have already purchased the next two so I don't have to wait between books. Once I finish Blood Noir i am going to restart so I can appreciate those little things i missed while I await Skin Trade. I am soooo obsessed.. :)
ponte92Apr 26 2009, 3:20 AM EDTMy first book was GP i read them in order to tKD then skipped to OB because Edward is my fav charactur and i wanted to read all about him, then i went back again to read the others. Although OB is still my favorite by far!
yourathenagirlApr 30 2009, 3:21 PM EDTI'm reading OB right now, and I swear it's taking forever. Edward used to be one of my favorites, but now I realize it was because he was such a mysterious badass, now he doesn't hold the same allure as he used to.
But as far as which book I read I don't remember, mainly because I just skimmed through it, but I started at the beginning.
trekownerMay 1 2009, 4:22 PM EDTmy first Anita was Book 1. was told of the series by a friend.
enjoyed the book even though i thought the writing style was
a little too close to a romantic novelist. I have read the first 3 in
sequence then had to skip a couple as i tried to find them in order.
anon
May 1 2009, 4:40 PM EDT I read them all in sequence and while they did take a turn I didn't love, I stuck with them and have high hopes for the new book coming out in June. When you are reading a series, it's hard to not read the next book, because you become invested in the character and story, so I feel your plight, but I soldier on. At the very least, the books entertain me.

Thread started: May 13 2009, 3:42 PM EDT  Watch
I really researched this series before I actually read it.

I've read a lot of posts in general on the web that says over Obsidian Butterfly or so the series starts to go down the hill. But I'm hopeful that whatever changes occur that I'll still be a fan through to its end <3

I was browsing the library looking for something interesting to listen to on audio when I pass by a display with hot titles to read. On the table was a collaboration of writers of a book called Strange Candy. I listen to it and found it very intriguing which led me to inquire about Laurell K. Hamilton and her other books. I started looking for Guilty Pleasures and was hooked, next came The Laughing Corpse, The Circus of the Damn and The Lunatic Cafe. I’m not searching for the audio of Bloody Bones.
