Character Factoids

  • He frequently quotes poetry and plays and has a semi-formal way of speaking. This sometimes annoys Anita, but she knows that if the situation is bad and he has been speaking simply, a return to quoting signals an improvement. (DM)
  • He seems melancholic most of the time. He got his name because he is poetic but depressing.
  • Requiem does not know how to drive. (ID)
  • Jean-Claude considers him to be a good and honorable man (DM), and strong, dominant, and intelligent enough to override Anita should she order something foolish while in the grip of the ardeur (ID).
  • Anita considers him to be 'too high maintenance' to be a permanent lover (DM) but appreciates his bravery and gentlemanly ways. (ID) He does get a regular place on the feeding roster, but wishes for more emotional involvement on her part, which the Harlequin exploits. (TH)
  • Requiem is exclusively heterosexual, and has been severely punished for refusing to do men. (DM) His experience with the Harlequin in England included wild, crazed sex with men, including Byron, and he refuses to let Byron speak of it. (TH)
  • Requiem does not have the ardeur, but he has a related and complementary power, which has the effect of rousing lust in both his partner and himself (TH), and feels like hours of really good foreplay packed into a few minutes. (DM) Since it rouses the body but not the mind, Requiem feels that using it on the unwilling is a form of rape. (ID) Both Belle Morte and his other master required him to use it in forced seductions. Women have offered lands, titles, their honor, everything, for one more night in Requiem's bed. (DM)
  • Falling in love with Ligeia weaned him of his addiction to Belle Morte and her ardeur. Ligeia was the only female of Belle's line to have the ardeur, and it contained the ability to rouse lust and love both. She was nearly crazed with it initially; Requiem was with her from the beginning when it rose in her. The two of them were sent to seduce both halves of an unnamed royal couple on Belle's behalf; they were together for a considerable time on this errand. Requiem refused to have sex with Belle after that, desiring only Ligeia, and Belle was so enraged that she had Ligeia killed. (DM)
  • Requiem had been sleeping with Meng Die, but renounced her when he was hoping to be chosen as Anita's pomme de sang. This enraged Meng Die to the point of trying to disfigure him and kill him with a silver knife.(DM)
  • Requiem has a complicated history. When he and his master visited Belle's court, she was taken with him and wished to add him to her stable of blue-eyed lovers. He and his master then fled her. (ID) Later, after his master was killed in a (possibly staged) carriage accident, Belle collected Requiem and the un-named master's other vamps. At some unspecified time, Requiem was sent to London to be part of Dracula's kiss. (DM) When Dracula went mad and had to be killed, Belle would have collected Requiem once again, but Jean-Claude, by then a sourdre de sang, was able to intervene and bring him to St. Louis. Requiem had been in St. Louis only about two weeks at the time of ID. (ID)
